I’m taking on the Munga-Thirri Simpson Desert Challenge for Youngcare
The thought of walking the Simpson Desert for 9 days and over 230 kms terrifies me......but so would the thought of living with a severe and complex permanent disability in an institution or inappropriate home without dignity, choice and control.
While supporting Youngcare on the Trek I will be experiencing what it is like to be uncomfortable and isolated for just a short period of time. Young people with permanent physical disabilities can feel like this all the time.
Personally, with 2 young children who are fit and healthy, I want to demonstrate to them how important it is that we advocate and support people with complex and permanent disability in our community.
