I’m taking on the Munga-Thirri Simpson Desert Challenge for Youngcare
Mission accepted!! For 9 days, myself and my fellow Youngcare Trekkers will embark on a 230km journey across the Simpson Desert to raise money for young people with complex physical disabilities who are being left behind in unsuitable accommodation such as aged care, hospitals and long term rehabilitation or living at home with aging parents, leaving them at risk for inappropriate housing in the future. For almost two decade, Youngcare have been advocating for equality, freedom and choice for these young people across Australia providing much needed grants, designing and building quality, specialist disability accommodation and supporting people navigate the disability sector.
I am a Registered Nurse now working in rural and remote Queensland. I have seen first hand the issues facing young people with disabilities across both metropolitan and rural sectors. Being inspired by my friends the Boyd Family who have previously participated in the trek I have thrown my hat into the ring to complete the 2025 Trek.
It is a privilege and honour to trek on behalf of those who cannot, while raising funds and awareness for their wellbeing.
