To keep things lightning quick and simple, here are all of the frequently asked questions about The Bolt in one convenient location! If you have a question that is not answered below, please contact Youngcare at events@youngcare.com.au

Event Day FAQ’s

Where is The Bolt and how do I get there? 

The Bolt zone will be located at the University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus. Starting at the Recreation Precinct Playground along Sir William MacGregor Drive. 

To help reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, we encourage travel to and from the event by private vehicle. 

Parking: Parking is free on weekends at UQ! Please visit UQ’s parking information website for further information.

Public Transport: There are many buses that stop at UQ. Check Translink for further information.

I can’t make The Bolt, are there other ways I can help?

Of course! If you cannot participate on the day either with us in person, or virtually, you can donate to a BOLTER or Youngcare here.

What is the course of The Bolt? 

The Bolt's course map will soon be available... Keep tuned! 


What should I bring? 

Participants will be able to collect their BOLT race kit prior to the day.
We highly recommend you only bring with you what you need on the day for The Bolt. Please also remember to wear sunscreen and be sun safe! 
We recommend you BYO water in a water bottle. There are limited water stations available on the course.

If you have lost your race kit, or lose any items on the day, please see a Youngcare staff member.

What should I wear?

Kit yourself out in red for Youngcare! Red leggings, red tutu’s, red wigs (Budgy Smugglers optional!) the choice is yours! You will also receive a red shirt to wear on the day as part of your race kit. Ensure you wear comfortable closed in shoes and please bring your mask with you!

Is there an age limit?

The Bolt is open to all ages! Please note under 18’s will need to make sure a parent/guardian attends with them.

I have registered to Bolt on 27th March 2022, but the event has been postponed, what happens to my registration? 

If you have already registered for The Bolt, your registration will be automatically transferred over to the new date! Jump back into your fundraising now and spread the word about Youngcare!

Can’t make the new date? 

Not to worry, you will be able to still participate virtually! Grab your mates and walk/run/wheel 5kms anywhere across the country!


What COVID measures are in place?

Your health and safety is our top priority and we are committed to making sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience at The Bolt.

Youngcare are constantly monitoring the situation with COVID-19 and taking precautions to minimize any risks associated. We will continue to communicate with our Bolters in the lead up to the event to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable attending. Please note we do have options to ensure The Bolt will go ahead, which might mean some changes to the event or for it to all go virtual.

Youngcare is required to adhere to COVID-19 vaccination mandates following Government health directives. All participants who wish to attend ‘The Bolt’ in-person at UQ on Sunday 31 July 2022 are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are not vaccinated for COVID-19 but would still like to participate, please register for The Bolt Virtual! 

We do also ask you consider the cohort we represent and the wider community and do not attend The Bolt if:

  • You are an active COVID-19 case;
  • You have been in close contact with a person who is positive for COVID-19 in the last 7 days;
  • Either you or anyone in your household is currently awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test;
  • You are currently experiencing the relevant symptoms of COVID-19;
  • You have been requested by either a governmental or medical authority to be in quarantine currently

And remember, its everyone’s responsibility to remain socially distanced at all Youngcare events.

When does registration open and how much does it cost?

Registration is now open! Click here to register. A registration fee of $50 applies. 

Will The Bolt be virtual in 2022?

Yes! You will be able to participate in The Bolt virtually anywhere across the country – you will be able to select this option when you register. See below for more info. 

The Bolt Virtual FAQ’s

Is The Bolt also virtual, if I cannot make the event day in Brisbane? How does The Bolt virtual work?

You get to choose WHEN and WHERE you BOLT over the weekend of The Bolt! Simply:

  1. Tell people you are BOLTING for young people with physical disabilities and raise funds through our platform
  2. Pick up, or receive via post, your exclusive BOLT singlet.  
  3. Over the weekend of The Bolt, Walk/Run/Wheel your 5kms anywhere in Australia (on your own or with friends – up to you!)
  4. Share and send through your pictures or videos via Facebook, Instagram or Linkedin on the day!
