I'm trekking the 10 Peaks Challenge for Youngcare
For four incredible days, I'll be taking on the adventure of
a lifetime, where I'll be taken out of my comfort zone, to raise much-needed
funds and awareness for young people with physical disabilities.
The initial reaction I received from friends and family when telling them I was doing this trek was laughter followed by shock once they realised I wasn’t joking.
Anyone who knows me knows I have a (self-diagnosed) allergy to exercise, particularly cardio. I’m taking on this challenge to make myself uncomfortable and take advantage of the young abled body that I’m fortunate enough to have.
Did you know that thousands of young people with high physical support needs are being left behind in places like aged care or institutional homes? It's simply because there has been nowhere else for them to go.
Youngcare is fighting for freedom, dignity and choice for young people with high physical support needs to choose where they live, who they live with, and how they live their lives.
I have been working at Youngcare for just over a year and in that time, I have been privy to some truly heartbreaking, and heartwarming stories.
Life can change in an instant and it has become abundantly clear to me how easily I could find myself in need of a service like Youngcare. The impact Youngcare has on people’s lives is genuinely life-changing and I’m hoping to raise funds and awareness to assist in their mission.
