Munga-Thirri Simpson Desert Challenge 2027

I’m taking on the Munga-Thirri Simpson Desert Challenge for Youngcare

For me, taking on the Simpson Desert Trek is about so much more than just a physical challenge.

It’s an opportunity to connect with Country, walk on our beautiful Australian soil and raise awareness and funds for a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.

I started working in the disability sector at just 14 years old, and over 12 years later, it’s still an industry I genuinely love and feel incredibly passionate about. What started as a school-based traineeship has grown into a lifelong passion.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of supporting some incredible people and their families. I’ve also seen firsthand the challenges people living with disability can face, particularly when it comes to having choice, independence and access to the right supports.

As someone who values my connection to Country, there’s something special about taking on this challenge out on the land, away from everyday life, while supporting a cause that aligns so closely with everything I believe in.

Everyone deserves a place to call home, the opportunity to make their own choices and the support to live life their way.

That’s why I’m taking on the Simpson Desert Trek for Youngcare.

Every step will have a purpose, and every donation, no matter how big or small, will help make a difference.

Thank you for getting behind me and supporting a cause that means so much.

A journey close to my heart

Wednesday 28th Oct

In May 2027, I’ll be taking on one of the biggest physical and mental challenges of my life - the Munga-Thirri Simpson Desert Challenge, raising funds for Youngcare.

Over nine days, I’ll trek more than 230 kilometres through the heart of the Simpson Desert, climbing over 1,000 sand dunes, carrying a 10kg backpack and facing temperatures ranging from freezing nights to days reaching 40°C.

Nine days without the everyday comforts we often take for granted - no showers, no proper bed, no toilets and very little connection to the outside world.

Having worked in the disability sector for over 12 years, this cause is incredibly close to my heart. Throughout my career, I’ve seen firsthand how important choice, independence, dignity and the right supports are for people living with disabilities.

As someone with Aboriginal heritage, the opportunity to spend nine days walking on Country also holds a special meaning for me. It’s a chance to connect with Country while challenging myself for something I’m genuinely passionate about.

The physical and mental challenges of this trek will be temporary. After nine days, I’ll return home to my family and the comforts of everyday life. For many young Australians living with complex physical disabilities, the barriers they face don’t simply end after nine days.

That’s why I’m doing this.

Youngcare works to ensure young Australians with complex physical disabilities have greater choice over where they live, who they live with and how they live their lives.

I’ve committed to raising $40,000, and I’m reaching out to our community, local businesses, family and friends to help make this possible.

Whether through donations, business sponsorships or simply sharing my journey, every contribution will help support Youngcare’s life-changing work.

This is going to push me well outside my comfort zone, but it’s a challenge I’m proud to take on.
